Quotes

A new quote or proverb every time you load the page -- philosophy, wisdom, humor, and traditional sayings, each shown in its own language rather than translated from somewhere else, since a proverb rarely survives translation intact.

How it works

Each language has its own curated collection of quotes and proverbs, written and preserved in their original language. Every time you open the page (or click "New Quote"), we pick one at random from your language's collection and show it here, along with who said it -- a real, named author; a traditional proverb with no single author; or simply "Unknown" when even the quote's true origin is genuinely uncertain.

Worked example

Load the page and you might see a line from a philosopher, a folk proverb passed down for generations, or a well-known saying whose original author was lost to history. Click "New Quote" any time you want another one -- there's no limit to how many you can see.

Where do the quotes come from?
– Each language has its own hand-curated set of real, verifiable quotes and traditional proverbs -- not machine-translated from English, since a proverb's meaning and rhythm rarely survive translation intact.
Why do some quotes say "Unknown" instead of a name?
– Some widely-shared quotes have disputed or untraceable origins -- rather than guess at an author, we label these honestly as unknown.
What counts as a "proverb" versus a quote?
– A quote is attributed to one real, named person. A proverb is a traditional saying passed down through a culture with no single known author.
Can I get the same quote twice?
– Yes -- each pick is random and independent, so repeats can happen, especially with a smaller collection.
